Christmas Craft Sale and Mid Year Submisson

Despite setbacks due to the weather and the subsequent cancellation of the Christmas Craft Fair with Ballyfermot Partnership, our fund raiser proved a resounding success.    The class set up shop at the Main Building and the Arts Block this past week. We managed to exceed our goals and are on our way to securing the funds for our End of Year Show.  Congratulations to all who participated - it's encouraging to see what we can accomplish when we pull together!
In your blog, you are required to write a short 250 word essay about your experience with the Craft Sale.  This can be done after your submission on Monday.

Monday, the 20th of December, is the due date for the first brief.   For those of you who may have been absent, you don't need to include the Competitor Case Analysis or the Market Analysis.  However, you must include the Competitor Analysis you did for Design in Use.   I wish you all well in your submissions!

By now you should have selected a template for you blog.  If you have not already done so, select the widgets you wish to include on your side bar.  Some widgets are included with your page as default settings, such as the 'follow me' widget.   You will now begin posting as part of your module grade.  Use your blog to write a brief note to introduce yourself in the 'about me' widget on your sidebar.  You may consider using an edited version of your artists statement.  You may also upload a photo of yourself if you like, but remember that what you post will be public, unless you decide that you want to restrict access to your blog through privacy settings.  Now you're ready to post your thoughts about your experience on the Fiber Arts HND.  Write about techniques which have inspired you, what you've found challenging, what you are working on now.

You will also use your blog to document your experience of the Craft Sale.  Write about what you did to prepare, how you organized, what specific tasks you volunteered for.  Include your thoughts about what went well, what you learned, and what you would do differently next time.  Remember to take photos to post on your page.

Remember to click on the 'follow me' button on this blog spot, and post comments here.  Be sure to check the folder in studio 2 for handouts if you missed class, especially over the last few weeks due to the weather.

AFH2: Blogging

6/12/02

We will all be embarking on a journey which takes us into new territory - the territory of e-commerce.
To help us with this experience, we will all start and maintain our own blogs, experimenting with both the expected and the unexpected potential of this format.

Why blog?
  • Personal development - writing, communicating, commitment
  • Global exposure - people will find you
  • Make connections - from like minded people to business opportunities
  • Show your true personality
  • Cost effectiveness - free to set up and run with earning potential
  • Link your blog to your Etsy page, email address or mobile device
  • Stand out from the crowd

To begin, look at some blogs related to your area of interest.  For example, google 'art student blogs', knitting, crochet &etc.  Visit 5 blog pages and document them.  Write a list, and then jot down what you found helpful, which styles you responded to, which included interesting and relevant links, which were regularly updated.

Next, look at free templates.  I recommend Blogger or WordPress.  Play around with the templates until you find one which appeals to you.  Set yourself up following the prompts, and you're off and running!

Through your blog, you will be able to document your journey as a student in your final year of the Fiber Arts HND.  You will also be able to upload digital files and video which will support your writing.
